Assumes the S&P 500 returns 10.5% a year (its long-run average with dividends reinvested) both while you save and while you draw down, and 3% yearly inflation. Contributions go in at the end of each month. Income and heritage are entered in today's money and adjusted for inflation up to retirement day; the monthly withdrawals then keep rising with inflation so they hold their purchasing power. Real returns swing widely from year to year, and taxes and fund fees are not included.
